KabarJawa.com – Gunungkidul Regency recorded a spike in tourist visits during the 2026 Eid holiday. In the six-day period, from March 19 to March 24 2026, the number of tourists visiting various destinations reached 230,669 people.
This data shows an increase in tourism activity that has occurred since the start of the holidays, especially after Eid Al-Fitr which falls on March 20 2026. The coastal area is the location with the highest level of visits during that period.
Secretary of the Gunungkidul Tourism, Youth and Sports and Creative Economy Department, Eko Nur Cahyo, said that an increasing trend in visits had been seen since the first day of the holiday. The peak of tourist movement occurs after the Eid celebrations.
“Since the start of the holidays, we have seen a quite sharp upward trend. The peak occurred after Hari Raya, where tourists crowded almost all the top tourist attractions,” said Eko.
Daily Visits and Tourism Revenue
A significant spike was recorded on Monday, March 23 2026, with the number of tourists reaching 68,233 people. On that day, tourism sector income was recorded at IDR 848,560,500.
Similar conditions continued on Tuesday, March 24 2026. The number of visits decreased slightly to 65,993 tourists, with income of IDR 822,328,600. Despite the decline, visit numbers and income remain at high levels.
Overall, the total income from the tourism sector during the six Eid holidays reached IDR 2,856,667,200. This achievement reflects the high mobility of people during the holiday period as well as economic activity in the tourism sector.
Destination Management and Attraction
The relevant department stated that it had made a number of efforts to optimize services at tourist locations. Traffic flow management, increased cleanliness, and strengthening security aspects are carried out to support visitor comfort.
Eko Nur Cahyo said that beach destinations are still the main destination for tourists. Apart from that, tourist attractions in caves and hilly areas also recorded an increase in visits because they offer unique natural characteristics.
He added that infrastructure improvements also contributed to the increase in the number of tourists this year. Improved accessibility is considered to facilitate visitor mobility to various destinations.
The Gunungkidul Regency Government expressed optimism regarding the future growth of the tourism sector. The achievements during the 2026 Eid holiday are considered to be an indicator of increasing the region’s attractiveness as a tourist destination.
The surge in visits during this holiday period has also become a concern for tourism industry players to improve service quality.
The local government notes that the visiting trend does not only occur during the holiday season, but also has the potential to continue throughout the year.
