KabarJawa.com – The appearance of a brightly glowing celestial object in the skies of Bantul and Gunungkidul on Sunday (14/6/2026) evening attracted the attention of residents.

This phenomenon has given rise to various speculations, ranging from allegations that objects fell from the sky to being linked to myths that have developed in society.

An astronomer from the Yogyakarta Astronomical Space Agency, Mutoha, confirmed that the visible light was a bolide meteor.

“Yes, from the information I received it was positive for a meteor or bolide,” said Mutoha when confirmed.

Bolide is a meteor with a very high level of brightness.

When it enters Earth’s atmosphere, this celestial body produces bright light that can even illuminate the surrounding environment.

The phenomenon occurred at around 19.30 WIB.

Based on reports from a number of eyewitnesses, the meteor was seen shooting from above towards the southeast at high speed.

“From the information I received, witnesses in Kaliurang said the meteor shot towards the southeast from top to bottom. The meteor emitted a bright light so that the clouds around it also looked bright and left a green tail,” he explained.

This report is in line with various videos and testimonies from residents circulating via social media.

Residents were shocked

One of Kapanewon Semanu residents, Riyanti, admitted to seeing this phenomenon directly while in the Wonosari City area.

According to him, the light looked like a fireball moving quickly from north to south.

“I saw a light like a fireball rolling in the sky. It was heading south of Wonosari City. I watched it for a while because the light was quite bright and different from ordinary light,” he said.

Riyanti said the light continued to move until it finally disappeared from her sight.

“I watched it until it disappeared. It seemed like it fell in the Karangrejek area because suddenly the light disappeared in that area,” he said.

Sri, a resident of Siraman Village, gave a similar testimony.

“Its shape is like a ball of fire. Behind it there is a tail of light which is quite long. I saw that it was also heading south of Wonosari,” said Sri.

Natural Natural Phenomenon

Mutoha asked the public not to panic regarding the appearance of the meteor.

“Yes, it’s a normal phenomenon. It was a meteor fall, but the one yesterday was quite big,” he said.

According to him, most meteors that enter the atmosphere will be exhausted due to friction with the air layer before reaching the Earth’s surface.

“Generally meteors are eroded by the atmosphere before they reach the ground,” he said.

This explanation also answers various allegations that the celestial body fell in a certain area in Gunungkidul.

He explained that determining the location of a meteor fall cannot be done only based on the direction of the trajectory visible from the surface.

“Yes, people only predict because the direction of the fall is to the southeast or towards Gunungkidul,” he said.

Mutoha added that when a large meteor actually reaches the earth’s surface, it will usually be accompanied by a loud bang.

“If it’s not accompanied by a booming sound, usually the meteor isn’t very big and doesn’t leave behind any rocks,” he explained.

Associated with Pulung Hanging

The appearance of this bright meteor also raised discussions about the Pulung Gantung belief, which has long been known in a number of Gunungkidul areas.

Some residents associate this light with a sign of impending suicide, as is a belief that has developed from generation to generation.

Sri admitted that he hoped the phenomenon he saw was not Pulung Gantung.

“I hope it’s not a hanging pulung. The problem is that many people here still believe that if there is a light like that, there will be people hanging themselves in the area where the light falls,” he said.

Mutoha emphasized that from an astronomical point of view, this phenomenon has nothing to do with the myths that have developed in society.

“Yes, there are many myths about meteors. One of them is Pulung Gantung in Gunungkidul which is linked to people committing suicide or hanging themselves,” he said.

According to him, the emergence of myths is part of people’s culture, while the meteor phenomenon is a natural event.

Not Part of the June Meteor Shower

Many residents questioned whether the appearance of the meteor could be predicted in advance.

Mutoha explained that sporadic meteors are difficult to determine when they appear.

“It definitely cannot be predicted. Meteor showers do have a schedule of active periods, so there is a greater chance of meteors appearing on certain nights. However, the time of their appearance cannot be determined,” he said.

He said the meteor seen in the Yogyakarta sky on Sunday night was not part of the Bootid or Arietid meteor showers which were active in June.

“Last night’s meteor was not part of the Bootid or Arietid meteor showers which are active this June because the event was far from its peak period,” he explained.

According to Mutoha, the green color of the meteor’s tail indicates the presence of certain metals.

“This is a sporadic type of meteor, not part of a shower or meteor shower. The color indicates that the meteor contains a lot of nickel or magnesium,” he explained.

He added that these characteristics indicate the possibility of the meteor belonging to the iron meteor group.

“This includes iron meteors, not rock meteors, so there is a possibility of leaving meteorites on the ground,” he said.

However, until this news was written there had been no official report regarding the discovery of a meteorite which was thought to have come from this event.

The phenomenon of bolide meteors crossing the skies of Bantul and Gunungkidul is a reminder that astronomical events can occur at any time.

Amid various interpretations and accompanying beliefs, experts confirm that the green light that shocked residents is part of a natural phenomenon that is rarely seen.

PakarPBN

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.

In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.

The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
