KABARJAWA – The salary issue of DPR members has returned to the subject of hot conversation in the public. The sharp spotlight led to the Parliament Building after rumors circulated that each board member received a salary of up to Rp100 million per month.
The fantastic number immediately triggered a wave of criticism. Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Commission X, My Esti Wijayati, open votes about the amount of the amount received by the people’s representatives.
He explained that members of the DPR 2024-2029 were no longer enjoying official housing facilities. The government actually replaced it with a housing allowance of Rp50 million per month.
According to him, it became compensation for the loss of official house rights that they could have occupied.
“Our salary does not go up, but there is a housing allowance because we have been told to move. Imagine not, told to move yesterday as soon as possible. Isn’t it confused? I am a Jogja person, only often to Jakarta, and never goes around Jakarta as a whole,” said My Esti on Sunday (8/24/2025).
The tone of his voice rose when he told his personal experience. He claimed to have to be helter-skelter looking for a place to live in a short time. In fact, he said honestly that he had owed in order to immediately rent a house in Jakarta.
“It’s hard to ask for forgiveness, forced. This is honest, I was looking for the anniversary at that time,” he said.
Efficiency is the reason for the DPR
My Esti also described the reasons behind the policy of eliminating official homes. He emphasized that the DPR actually considered aspects of budget efficiency.
If the government has to fix hundreds of official houses for DPR members, the costs incurred are far greater than providing housing allowances. Even so, he personally remains more comfortable living in an official residence.
“The place is good, the security is complete. If it is damaged, someone is fixing. Like the trench and water disposal, I am clear.
Clarification about car facilities and salary increase issues
Not stopping there, My Esti also straightened public accusations that DPR members received luxury facilities in the form of official cars. He ensured that the DPR only received a special number plate, not an official vehicle.
“The car is not, the plate is because it is to indicate,” he said.
Furthermore, he also dismissed the issue of salary increases in DPR members. He emphasized that there had never been a salary increase since the last few years. Based on Government Regulation Number 75 of 2000, the basic salary of DPR members is still equivalent to the ministerial salary, which is around Rp4 million per month.
“If the public says our salary goes up, it is wrong. There is no salary increase. There are only home allowances because official housing facilities are removed,” he said.
Although the explanation has been conveyed, public unrest has not subsided. The Rp100 million is still considered too large in the midst of the condition of the country that is intensively carrying out budget efficiency.
Many people consider the DPR to be more transparent about the details of salaries and benefits so as not to cause misunderstandings.
“I understand, the public is reasonable. The state is now tightening the belt, many people are still struggling to eat daily. So it is natural that there is a negative perception,” he said.
