KABARJAWA – Caturharjo Village, Whawon Pandak, Bantul, proves that the old tradition is able to solve the big problems today.
The Caturharjo Village Government again revived the tradition of Coro Simbah waste or processing waste by way of ancestors through making also a hole in the soil to hoard organic waste.

Caturharjo Urban Village Chief, Wasdiyanto, emphasized that the 5,000 Movement since 2020 has become clear evidence of local wisdom remains relevant. He said he moved the residents to make a room in their yard.
“We want to return the organic waste to the ground, as Simbah-solemn do first,” he said at the harvest event, Tuesday (8/7/2025).
Wasdiyanto revealed that the garbage cadres succeeded in moving the community to make a room in every house. They use also as a place to hoard organic waste so that they break down quickly in the soil.
“We see the Coro Simbah Waste Method really solve the problem of organic waste. The garbage immediately disappears without causing the odor and does not add to the burden of the landfill,” he said in a proud tone.
He explained that also not only resolved garbage, but also produced compost that could be a planting medium.
“If we manage it well, this can also make money, it becomes a business opportunity for Bumkal,” he added full of confidence.
Wasdiyanto said that the potential of also as a very large business unit. He plans to develop compost management from also as one of the new sources of income for Caturharjo Village.
“If we can process compost from massively, Bumkal can sell it as organic fertilizer. This will increase village income and strengthen the economic independence of citizens,” he explained.

The harvest event was also attended by the Deputy Regent of Bantul, Aris Suharyanta, who appreciated the extraordinary innovation of the Caturharjo Village. Aris assessed that the movement was also able to overcome the problem of organic waste without incurring great costs.
“If the 75 villages in Bantul embed 5,000 also like in Caturharjo, then there will be around 375,000 too. That means 70 percent of waste problems are resolved,” he said.
Aris stressed that good waste management will improve the quality of public health. He also conveyed data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) which shows the age of life expectancy in Bantul is now the highest in DIY.
“In Caturharjo, waste is well managed. That is, one element to maintain public health has been fulfilled. We get information from BPS that the age of life expectancy in Bantul is the highest in DIY,” he said.
