KABARJAWA – Mount Merapi again showed intense activity throughout the week (6/7/2025) until Monday (7/7/2025) early morning.
The Geological Disaster Technology Investigation and Development Center (BPPTKG) recorded Merapi launched 22 incandescent lava falls in the observation period at 00.00-06.00 WIB, Monday.
BPPTKG reported that the incandescent lava drops drove to the southwest, especially towards the Sat/White River and Kali Krasak. The farthest fall reached a distance of 1,600 meters from the peak.
Previously, in the observation period Sunday (6/7/2025) at 00.00-24.00 WIB, BPPTKG recorded a total of 97 earthquakes.
Observers also reported 16 incandescent lava falls that led to Kali Bebeng, Krasak River, and Kali Sat/White with a maximum slide distance of 2,000 meters.
BPPTKG said the weather around Merapi was bright, cloudy, to cloudy. The wind blows calmly to the east and west. The air temperature is recorded between 16.5 to 25 degrees Celsius with air humidity reaching 99.3 percent on Sunday.
Officers observe weak white pressure crater smoke with thin to moderate intensity. The height of the smoke at Sunday reached 50 meters, while on Monday morning it increased to 100 meters above the top of the crater.
BPPTKG also recorded 104 hybrid/phase earthquakes in weeks with a 2-17 mm amplitude and a maximum duration of 14.84 seconds. In addition, two tectonic earthquakes were far recorded.
On Monday morning, BPPTKG reported 27 hybrid/phase earthquakes and a lot of tectonic earthquakes with a duration of 178 seconds. BPPTKG emphasized that the status of the activity of Mount Merapi is still at level III (Alert).
Potential hazards in the form of lava and clouds of clustering falls in the southern-power sector including the Boyong River as far as a maximum of 5 km, Bedog River, Krasak, and Bebeng as far as a maximum of 7 km.
In the southeast sector, the potential danger includes the Woro River as far as a maximum of 3 km and the Gendol River as far as a maximum of 5 km.
A vulcanic material fall during an explosive eruption can reach a radius of 3 km from the peak. Magma supply is still ongoing and has the potential to trigger hot clouds.
Instead, the community does not carry out any activities in the potential danger area. Residents need to be aware of the threat of rain lava and hot clouds of falling, especially when it rains in the Merapi area.
