Jogja’s 2026 UMK is predicted to increase by 6 percent, this is a direct leak from the mayor

In the midst of waiting for thousands of workers and entrepreneurs, the Mayor of Yogyakarta, Hasto Wardoyo, is reported to have provided a leak regarding the estimated wage increase in his area.

The Mayor of Jogja for the 2025-2030 period also gave a positive signal that the increase in wages next year will be quite significant compared to previous years.

Prediction of increase in Jogja’s MSE to reach 6 percent

Hasto Wardoyo predicts that the increase in the Yogyakarta City MSE in 2026 will be around 6 percent. This increase was driven by changes in certain index variables or alphas in the latest wage formula.

The alpha range that complies with the rules is between 0.5 to 0.9. Regional governments are currently referring to data that has been determined by the central government through the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), including taking into account the Decent Living Needs (KHL) component which is the main demand of workers.

The Increasing Role of ‘Alpha’

Furthermore, Hasto explained that the alpha value is determined by each district/city through a consensus deliberation process between elements of employers and worker representatives, by adjusting the real conditions of the region. This alpha value represents the contribution of labor to regional economic growth.

The good news is that this year’s alpha value range is much higher. Hasto revealed that the current alpha value range is in the range of 0.5 to 0.9, higher than the previous provision which was only in the range of 0.1 to 0.3.

Hasto believes that this regulatory change places workers’ contributions in a higher position and is valued in the minimum wage calculation scheme.

When is the Official Announcement for UMK Jogja 2026?

Regarding the official determination schedule, Hasto revealed that the process of calculating the minimum wage is expected to be completed in the very near future. According to procedures, the determination of the UMK will wait for the determination of the DIY Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP) first.

In short, DIY Province will first decide on the UMP, and only after that the districts/cities which are estimated to be completed within two days.

Meanwhile, the DIY Regional Government is reported to have finished holding a closed meeting with regents or mayors throughout Yogyakarta to determine the 2026 UMP. As for the announcement, the UMP will be released on Wednesday, December 24 2024.

This is also in line with the deadline from the central government which requires all regional heads to announce the minimum wage amount no later than December 24 2025.
