KABARJAWA – The 3 -kilogram LPG gas leakage was re -occurred and caused serious injuries. A housewife named Dwi Purwanti (45) who was cooking cake ordered suffered severe burns after the fire grabbed her body.

This incident took place in Kemloko Hamlet RT 01, Srimartani Village, Whawon Piyungan, Bantul Regency, on Wednesday, June 19, 2025 at around 09.00 WIB.

Quoted from the official statement of the police, the incident began when the victim replaced the gas cylinder that had run out, while one of the stove stoves was still in a state.

“When Dwi replaced the gas cylinder, the fire immediately grabbed. Allegedly, the gas that came out of the leaky regulator was ignited by the fire from the stove that was still on,” said AKP I Nengah Jeffry Prana Widnyana, Head of Public Relations Head of Bantul Police.

As a result of the fire strike, the victim’s body suffered burns up to 40 percent. Witnesses, namely neighbors, Widio (49) and Widia Yanti (43), immediately gave first aid and took the victim to the nearest hospital. At present, the victim is still in intensive medical treatment.

Causes of Fire

The police together with Bhabinkamtibmas and Babinsa immediately checked at the scene. They secured the remaining gas cylinders and recorded the identity of victims and witnesses.

Based on the initial examination, the main cause of the fire was allegedly due to two things: negligence did not turn off the stove when replacing the gas cylinder, and the poor ventilation in the kitchen area.

The closed kitchen condition makes the gas that leaks quickly trapped and spread, so the fire easily grabbed. This exacerbated the burns experienced by the victim.

Officers urge the public to always be careful in the use of gas stoves, especially in spaces that do not have good air circulation. It is important to ensure that all fires have been extinguished before replacing the gas cylinder and always checking the condition of the regulator and hose periodically.

“Do not underestimate the kitchen security. Check the condition of the tube, make sure the ventilation is sufficient, and do not let the fire light when changing gas,” said AKP Jeffry.

This event is an important lesson that security in the kitchen should not be underestimated. Small habits such as closing the stove first before changing the tube can save lives.

Until this news was revealed, Dwi Purwanti’s condition was still not possible to be questioned further.
