KABARJAWA – Thousands of elementary school children in the city of Yogyakarta undergo mass heartciling as a concrete step to prevent the threat of congenital heart disease from an early age. A total of 3,057 children from 104 elementary schools were the target of this health examination.

This examination is the result of collaboration between the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing University of Gadjah Mada (FK-KMK UGM), RSUP Dr. Sardjito, and 18 Puskesmas in the Yogyakarta City area.

This early detection program is not just a routine activity, but a generation of rescue mission. The examination initiation began in 2018, moving but surely.

Of the thousands of children undergoing examination, 2,631 children are healthy, but 426 children have heart problems and immediately receive treatment referrals at RSUP Dr. Sardjito.

“Early detection of innate heart disease and heart disease obtained is very important to increase the survival and quality of life of children. This program is one of the priorities in the DIY Regulation No. 103 of 2021 concerning the Regional Action Plan for the Healthy Community Movement Yogyakarta healthy sustainable,” said Wawan.

He asserted, the Pediatric Cardiology Update seminar will ignite the public awareness and improve the quality of children’s heart health services throughout Indonesia.

Chairperson of the Central Board of the Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI), Dr. Piprim Basarah Yanuarso, explained, the seminar explored a broad and deep topic.

  • The impact of obesity and malnutrition on heart health
  • The role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in the diagnosis and medical treatment

“With advanced technology, we can accelerate detection and expand service reach. This new knowledge is our weapon in reducing death rates due to heart disease in children,” he said.

Chairman of the Committee 13th Pediatric Cardiology Update, Prof. Indah Kartika Murni, explained that 204 participants took part in this activity, from Aceh to Papua.

The data shows that 68 percent of participants are women and 70 percent are pediatricians. The rest are general practitioners, specialist and subspecial program participants, as well as cross -professional health workers.

“Diversity of backgrounds and the increasing number of women’s participation shows extraordinary enthusiasm. We all have the same goal: Improve services and knowledge for the health of the hearts of Indonesian children,” said Prof. Beautiful.
