DPUPKP Kulon Progo Starting to rehabilitate irrigation channels in Girimulyo and Pengasih, farmers are ready to welcome changes

Kabarjawa.com– The Public Works Department of Housing and Settlement Areas (DPUPKP) of Kulon Progo Regency through the Water Resources Division cooperates with the Serayu Opak River Region (BBWS) to start rehabilitation work of irrigation channels in two strategic points.

This large project will target the Kayangan Irrigation area in the Pendoworejo Village, Whawon Girimulyo, and the Plelen Irrigation Area in Sidomulyo Village, when the Short Pengasih.

This step is not just a physical project. The government carries out this rehabilitation work as a tangible manifestation of Presidential Instruction Number 02 of 2025 concerning the Acceleration of Development, Improvement, Rehabilitation, and Operations and Maintenance of Irrigation Networks.

The target is clear, which is to strengthen national food security by providing irrigation infrastructure that is reliable, sustainable, and in favor of farmers.

The signing of the project contract took place on September 2, 2025. The government entrusted physical work to PT Brantas Abipraya (Persero), with strict supervision from the Supervision Consultant of PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara (Persero).

Implementation time for 120 calendar days, while the maintenance period lasts 180 calendar days.

Irrigation PPK, Jimmy Charles Roynald Ndun, ST, M.Eng., Stressed that this project was oriented towards improving irrigation network functions.

The government carried out this rehabilitation to strengthen agricultural productivity and support food security in Kulon Progo.

“We hope that all parties, ranging from service providers, consultants, government, to the community to work together so that the benefits will soon be felt by farmers,” he said.

The main network rehabilitation of irrigation certainly has consequences. During the work, the community and the Water User Farmers Group (P3A) at the affected location must understand the disturbance of water distribution.

However, the government stressed that the disturbance is temporary and much smaller than the long -term benefits that will be created.

With the rehailatory of irrigation channel infrastructure, farmers will feel the flow of water that is more smooth, more efficient, and more targeted. This will have a direct impact on increasing crop yields, efficiency of production costs, and the welfare of farmers.

Form of careful planning

The rehabilitation project of the Irrigation area of ​​Kayangan and the Plelen Irrigation Area is not a program that appears suddenly. The government proposed this activity through the Phase II Sipuri application in July 2025.

The proposal was then approved as part of the national priority project. This fact confirms that the government designs rehabilitation steps with careful planning and based on the real needs of farmers in the field.

The government invites all parties to support the smooth running of this project. From service providers to the community, all must unite so that rehabilitation runs without obstacles.

“We believe that strong irrigation will bring broader prosperity,” said Jimmy Charles Roynald Ndun.

According to him, the rehabilitation of irrigation channels in Girimulyo and Pengasih marked an important step on the journey of Kulon Progo to food self -sufficiency.
