KABARJAWA – After decades of being left without rejuvenation, the central and regional governments finally agreed to turn back the bright Fly Over.

The Head of the DIY Class II Land Transportation Management Center (BPTD), Dody Arifianto, immediately intervened to respond to the complaints of citizens who were busy with the darkness of the Public Street Light (PJU) in the Janti Layang Bridge area and its surroundings.

Dody responded to public complaints on Instagram social media with concrete steps. He asserted that BPTD DIY had coordinated with the Central Java-DIY National Road Implementation Center (BBPJN) as the legal owner of the Fly Over Janti asset.

From the results of the coordination, Dody promised that PJU improvements would be completed a maximum in early September 2025

The government built this overpass in the span of 1999 to 2001 through the Department of Settlement and Regional Infrastructure (now the Ministry of PUPR). Since then, the network and components of PJU lights have continued to age without a single significant repair.

“For more than two decades, none of the rejuvenation was carried out in the Fly Over Janti lighting system. So it is natural that now many lights are extinguished and components that are badly damaged,” Dody said when interviewed by Public Relations of the DIY Regional Government on Wednesday night (6/8/2025).

Repair target

DIY BPTD together with the Sleman Regency Transportation Agency (Dishub) have checked directly to the field. From these technical findings, they found poor conditions.

The electricity component is outdated, the lighting network is severely damaged, and most of the lights are no longer functioning.

“We have mobilized the technical team to carry out a thorough inventory. We want to ensure the best steps we can take, whether it is sufficient to maintain or need a total replacement of the lighting system around the fly over janti,” explained Dody.

On that occasion, Dody also stressed that they would not remain silent. It has assigned a special team to prepare a quick action plan.

He targets that improvements can start as soon as possible without having to wait for a protracted bureaucracy process.

Despite facing the challenges of ownership of assets, because Fly Over Janti is still listed as an asset owned by the Ministry of PUPR through BBPJN Central Java-DIY, Dody remains optimistic. He stated that the licensing and coordination process went smoothly. All parties support the acceleration of improvement.

“We are targeting that no later than early September 2025, all lighting has returned to normal. This road is a vital path, so the safety and comfort of road users is our priority,” Dody said.

BPTD DIY realizes that street lighting is not just a matter of comfort, but regarding the safety of road users.

Lights that go out in solid paths such as fly over janti can be at high risk, especially at night. Therefore, it wants to ensure that there is no more dangerous dark spot.

“With optimal lighting, the community can cross the fly over janti with a sense of security. We want to make this pathway back as a symbol of the bright, survivors of Yogyakarta Transportation Modernization, and orderly,” said Dody. (EF Linangkung)
