Shake the Sermo Reservoir, Kulon Progo exhibited the collaboration of spectacular culture

KABARJAWA – Kulon Progo shows fangs as the center of international cultural attractions. Thursday night (24/7/2025), the Kulon Progo Tourism Office held the peak event of folk performing arts in the Sermo Reservoir tourism object.

That night, the Sermo Reservoir turned into a magnificent stage that displayed the cultural collaboration of the four countries in front of thousands of spectators.

The appearance of 4 countries in the title of folk performing arts

Since Sunday (7/20/2025), the Kulon Progo Tourism Office has prepared a series of people’s art events by involving local and international studios.

Head of the Kulon Progo Tourism Office, Joko Mursito, stressed that his party prepared this activity was not just entertainment, but as a medium for tourism promotion and community economic empowerment.

“We use the privilege of the 2025 budget year to support this event. We involve traditional arts studios around Sermo and Kayangan Dams, as well as SMEs, Klitikan Market, and local traders,” Joko said.

Joko explained that his party invited a stunning performance from four friendly countries. Megumi from Japan featured a contemporary dance typical of the country of Sakura. Edgar from Ecuador vibrated the stage with the traditional instrument of Andes.

Gray & Jay from the Philippines shook the stage with an energetic choreography, while Chinese gamelan artists presented a combination of traditional Chinese gamelan and traditional instruments.

Cultural collaboration

The event also involved the ISI Yogyakarta alumnus who worked on the performance into a magnificent and amazing collaboration of culture. The audience applauded the boisterous when all artists performed together on one stage in the closing session.

The committee announced the winner of the flashmob competition which was attended by art studios from Kulon Progo and various regions in DIY. Damar Wulan won first place, followed by Move Up, Sekar Jagat, Mangun Harjo, and Unjer Falupi.

This flashmob will be held in a mass in the Kulon Progo Square on district anniversary, as a symbol of unity and the spirit of Kulon Progo development.

“We hope that this flashmob movement will be a symbol of the spirit of building until remote villages, while strengthening the identity of Kulon Progo,” said Joko.

Kulon Progo Regional Secretary, Triyono, appreciated the total event. He praised the Kulon Progo Tourism Office which successfully presented the cross -country spectacular event.

Triyono acknowledged that this folk performing arts title confirmed the superiority of Kulon Progo’s culture in the eyes of the world.

“Kulon Progo has extraordinary tourism potential, from the southern coast to the Menoreh hills. We must not only Nrimo Ing Pandum. We must innovate so that we can sell our tourism to the global market,” said Triyono.

Triyono invited all parties to think extraordinary and make a leap of innovation to boost tourist visits.

He emphasized that if tourist visits increased, then the Regional Original Revenue (PAD) of Kulon Progo will also surge, and development in all sectors can be realized.

“I thank Mr. Joko and the ranks of the Tourism Office, as well as all the actors of cultural and tourism arts. You all have made the name Kulon Progo in the eyes of the world tonight,” concluded Triyono.
