Pandansimo Bridge Use modern technology by the nation’s children, magnificent with 3 public plazas

KABARJAWA – Pandansimo Bridge officially stands majestically over the Progo River, connecting Bantul Regency to Kulon Progo. This project emits pride because it uses modern technology from the innovation of the nation’s children.

Project Supervisors from the Ministry of PUPR, Vederieck Yahya, emphasized that the bridge construction process adopted various latest construction technologies.

The construction team uses Bumpy steel plates (CSP) as the main structure of a lightweight but sturdy bumpy steel. They also put up Lead the rubber pads (LRB) to reduce earthquake shocks.

In addition, the project team implemented Mechanical stabilized earth walls (MSE Wall) which is flexible to soil movement. The workers also use Mortar Bosa as a special adhesive for the structural elements of the bridge.

“If the special seismic measuring instrument is specifically to measure the depth there is no existing because it is the realm of planning. But the point is this bridge is able to reduce the earthquake and liquefaction,” Vederieck said while reviewing the project location, Monday, June 30, 2025.

The construction team prepared this bridge to be resistant to facing extreme conditions in the southern coast of Java. Although seismic measuring instruments have not been installed, the supervisor believes the bridge structure has the optimal ability to reduce the impact of earthquakes and liquefaction.

Public plaza and economic expectations of coastal communities

The Pandansimo Bridge does not only function as a vital liaison for the mobility of Bantul and Kulon Progo residents. The government also prepared three areas of public plaza, namely Plaza A, Plaza B, and Plaza C. The three plaza are designed into a comfortable open space for pedestrians.

Vederieck ensured that the manager banned buying and selling activities in the bridge pedestrian area, including by traveling traders or starling (traveling coffee traders).

“There should be no traders in the pedestrian area. We prepare guard, both from CCTV and direct guards who always supervise,” he said.

He explained that the bridge security system was equipped with CCTV, warning loudspeakers, and guard posts on the west side of the bridge. The manager wants the community to use the plaza as a relaxing area and pedestrian activity without being interrupted by commercial activities.

“Hopefully in these places friends or people can use it for open areas but specifically pedestrians,” added Vederieck.

The presence of the Pandansimo Bridge was welcomed enthusiastically by the DIY DPRD. Secretary of the DIY DPRD Commission C, Koeswanto, said that this bridge has a strategic role. He requested that the government immediately open bridge access to support the mobility of residents.

“We visited the Pandansimo Bridge because this was a proposal from the ministry. So it can be opened soon because this has been completed since it was built from November 17, 2023. This has been in June, it should be immediately opened for our community access from Kulon Progo and Bantul,” he said.

Similarly, Suwardi, another member of Commission C, emphasized that the presence of this bridge would improve the welfare of the South Coastal community which had been classified as an economically marginal region.

“Our society in the southern suburbs is a marginal community for DIY. Our hope with the presence of the Pandansimo Bridge can encourage economic growth with JJLS which can later be well functioned,” said Suwardi.

Now, the magnificent bridge of the nation’s children is waiting for the inauguration time. DIY residents await their strategic benefits, from the efficiency of logistics distribution to the opening of the economic isolation of the southern region.

The Pandansimo bridge was established not only as a connecting infrastructure, but also a symbol of the rise of Indonesian construction technology.
