Build Communal WWTPs and two -storey residential cluster concept

KABARJAWA – The Yogyakarta City Government again shows a strong commitment in managing dense settlement areas to become a healthy, orderly, and sustainable environment.

One of the concrete steps runs in the Kotabaru area, precisely in RT 18 RW 4, through the construction of communal wastewater treatment installations (WWTP) and two -storey dwellings with the concept of cluster.

Kotabaru Area Structuring Program

The Department of Public Works, Housing and Settlement Areas (PUPKP) of Yogyakarta City leads directly this program. The Head of Housing and Settlement Areas, Sigit Setiawan, explained that his party had recorded as many as 32 houses in the region who had been throwing domestic waste directly into the river.

“This arrangement targets the overall environmental improvement. We build a communal WWTP so that domestic waste no longer pollutes the river, as well as organizing the houses of residents to be livable,” Sigit said when met at the Yogyakarta PUPKP Office.

The Yogyakarta City Government also fixes supporting environmental infrastructure. The PUPKP Office built drainage channels, widening road access, and designing green open space in the middle of the dense settlement. All structuring aims to minimize the risk of flooding and create comfort for residents.

“We not only build new houses, but also prepare green open space and adequate drainage. The goal is clear: creating a healthy and comfortable environment for all,” said Sigit.

The government applies the concept of housing and decent settlements in this arrangement. This concept not only regulates the physical matter of the building, but also includes the security of residents.

Cooperation with the palace

The City Government cooperates with the Yogyakarta Palace to provide a letter of confusion to residents, as a guarantee of legal rights on the land.

“We combine physical structuring and legality. Residents will occupy two-story houses built in small blocks with cluster concept. With land consolidation and confusion, they not only get new homes, but also legal certainty,” said Sigit.

In its implementation, the PUPKP Office involved the community actively. Residents participate in the process of land planning and arrangement. The city government ensures that development is participatory to suit the needs and aspirations of the local community.

Through this program, the Yogyakarta City Government not only handles the problem of waste and slums, but also creates a model of a healthy, orderly, and environmentally friendly urban area.
