Shani Jayanti Significance
Shani Jayanti marks the birth of Lord Shani. On this day, Lord Shani was born to Mother Swarna and Lord Surya. This day is one of the crucial days with greater significance in the religion of Hinduism. Mother Swarna or Chhaya is the shadow reflection of Lord Surya’s wife, Saranyu. As per Hindu mythology and Scriptures, Lord Shani is one of the greatest devotees and followers of Lord Shiva. Lord Shani also controls the service and commerce which is a part of Karma. The devotees of Lord Shani shouldn’t look straight into his eyes, as looking straight into his eyes is regarded as not lucky.
As per Sculptures, Lord Shani was kidnapped by Ravana and later freed by Shiva’s Incarnation, Lord Hanuman. Lord Shani assured his protector, Lord Hanuman that the worshipers of Lord Hanuman will be safe during the Dhaiya period, Shani Mahadasha and Shani Saadhe Saati.

Shani Shingnapur, Kokilavan Dham Sani Dev Temple, and Thirunallar Shani Temple are some of the notable temples where Lord Shani Dev is venerated in an extraordinary way by the devotees. People conduct Shani Shanti Puja at the nearby Shani Temple with a priest’s help. On this day people offer water to Lord Shani by revolving around him seven or eleven times. Devotees light a diya with mustard oil, black teel, and an iron nail.
