1O1 Style Yogyakarta Raises Mental Health Issues Through Literature on Youth Pledge Day

1O1 Style Yogyakarta celebrates the Youth Pledge with a reflective literature event with the theme of mental health “Embroidering Wounds with Words”.

KabarJawa.com – In commemoration of Youth Pledge Day, 1O1 Style Yogyakarta Malioboro held an event Breakfast Talk entitled “Embroidering Wounds with Words: Mind Programming in Literature” at Amerta Restaurant on Saturday, October 25 2025. This activity presents a unique combination of self-reflection, literary literacy, and awareness of the importance of mental health in modern society.

This interactive event presented two main speakers: Dwi Sutarjantono, a mind programwriter, and General Secretary of Satupena DKI Jakarta, as well as Dr. Novi Siti Kussuji Indrastuti, M.Hum., lecturer at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) Gadjah Mada University and Chair of the Kagama Poetry Reading Community “Strengthening Words: Healing with Literature”.

During the activity, the participants enjoyed breakfast while taking part in a light discussion about the power of words in human life. Not only talking about theory, this event also invites guests to experience the process directly self-healing through poetry writing activities and journaling. Through this series of activities, participants are invited to understand how words can be a bridge to process emotions and organize thoughts positively.

“Every word spoken has its own energy that can hurt, but can also heal. Through literature, we learn to choose positive words, understand the meaning behind feelings, and make peace with things that we cannot always say directly. Our brain rejects negative sentences the same as when praying,” said Dwi Sutarjantono, writer Mind Program and General Secretary of Satupena DKI Jakarta.

Meanwhile, Dr. Novi Siti Kussuji Indrastuti, M.Hum. highlights the process of writing as a simple yet effective form of healing.

“When someone writes, they are rearranging their thoughts, changing things that initially felt heavy into something that can be accepted and built upon. That’s why activities like this are important, because they help us maintain mental health in a way that is not only beautiful, but easy and fun. Moreover, today’s media is diverse, starting from captions on Instagram, TikTok, and so on,” he said.

The presence of several important figures also added weight to this activity. Among them Mahyudin Almudra, SH. MM. MA from the Center for Malay Cultural Studies and Development and Prof. Dr. Wening Udasmoro, SS, M.Hum., DEA., Professor of Literature and Gender Studies at FIB UGM who currently serves as Deputy Chancellor for Education and Teaching at UGM. Prof. Wening emphasized the importance of literacy and humanities in building a harmonious national life, where the positive energy of literature is able to harmonize people’s social life.

In closing, a number of participants also read poetry by Dr. Novi Siti Kussuji Indrastuti, followed by a musical performance of poetry by FCS UGM students. A warm and reflective atmosphere accompanied the end of the event, indicating that words can be a medium for healing oneself and strengthening togetherness.

According to Yewina Titta, Director of Sales & Marketing 1O1 Style Yogyakarta Malioboro, this activity is not only part of the commemoration of Youth Pledge Day, but also a forum to strengthen awareness of the importance of maintaining mental balance amidst the dynamics of modern life.

“This activity is a forum for sharing perspectives and experiences, where guests can engage in inspiring discussions and raise awareness of the importance of maintaining mental health,” he said.

The same thing was conveyed by AR Atik Damarjati, Hotel Manager 1O1 Style Yogyakarta Malioboro, who emphasized that the program Breakfast Talk designed not only to entertain, but also to provide added value for guests.

“Through Breakfast TalkWe not only want to present an authentic experience that connects guests with the spirit of Youth Pledge Day, but also encourage them to care more about mental health. This approach allows guests not only to enjoy the service friendlinessbut also gain insight into the process of self-healing through literary works,” he said.

Through this activity, 1O1 Style Yogyakarta Malioboro succeeded in showing that literature is not only a form of artistic expression, but also a space for healing and self-reflection. In the spirit of the Youth Pledge, Breakfast Talk is a reminder that language has extraordinary social power — capable of hurting, healing, and uniting a nation.***
